7 Safety Equipment When Handling Chemicals

When dealing with chemicals especially during production, it is important we have these safety equipment PPEs (Personal Safety Equipment) handy in order to prevent hazards from occurring.

Most of the chemicals/reagents we have listed in this website in the course of our tutorials are either corrosive, explosive and deadly if not dealt with with utmost care. We can’t overemphasize the importance of safety here.

Below are some of the safety equipment that should be worn when using chemicals

Helmet

Helmet – This is for protection of the head against impact from falling object and should be worn when necessary.

Hand Gloves

Hand Gloves – This should be worn at all times when dealing with chemicals to protect the palms from the hazardous effect of most of these chemicals and also to prevent contamination of your produce.

Eye Goggles

Eye Goggles – Should be worn to protect the eye from coming into contact with chemicals.

Nose Mask
Nose Mask

Nose Mask – Wearing the nose mask at all times would protect you from inhaling these chemicals most of which can alter the normal functioning of the body and cause serious damage to the nasal cavity.

Ear Buds
Ear Buds

Ear Buds – This should also be worn during production especially when heavy equipment are used.

Over All Jackets
Over All Jackets

Over All Jackets – Should be worn to prevent contact with the chemicals on any part of the skin which can cause harm.

Safety Boots
Safety Boots

Safety Boots – Safety boots can also be worn where necessary to prevent fall that could lead to injury and also to prevent stepping on spilled chemicals which could cause harm to the foot.

Note, enough water should be available in the case where there is need to either rinse the eyes, skin or any other part of the body that mistakenly comes in contact with chemicals.
